The National Black Bear Festival in Plymouth, North Carolina, is a unique celebration held annually on the first weekend in June. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Roanoke River in Plymouth’s historic district, the festival honors the region's black bear population, known for being among the largest and most densely concentrated in the world.
The 11th Annual festival is scheduled for June 6–7, 2025, and promises an exciting lineup of activities for all ages. Highlights include the Bear-Ology Museum with interactive black bear exhibits, Wild Bear Tours into natural habitats, the Paul Bunyan Lumber Show with thrilling lumberjack demonstrations, exciting air and water activities like hot air balloon rides and paddlewheel cruises, and family-friendly entertainment such as live music, a car show, a 5K run, a baby bear contest, and the spectacular "Reflections on the Roanoke" fireworks display. Admission to the festival is free, though some activities may require a fee. The event is family-friendly and offers a variety of experiences to educate and entertain attendees.
