24 hours in Wild Washington County Itinerary
It all begins with a sunrise paddle.
Dawn - Paddle the Albemarle
Cruise over to Mackey’s Ferry and launch your boat towards the Albemarle Sound. The sun peaking through the trees and dancing off the cypress branches is a delight to encounter. Pro tip: Double-check when the sun will rise and give yourself ample time to kayak out to the mouth of the delta.
Morning - Explore Downtown Plymouth
I bet you have worked up an appetite. Head over to Riverview Cafe or Stella’s Cafe for breakfast and coffee. Both are local favorites with a comfortable atmosphere.
Take your coffee to go and explore the four museums within four blocks. Be sure to stop by the Bearolina Welcome Center at 105 E. Water Street to sign up for your evening bear tour.
If you have the time, ask local business owner Lou Manring to take you for a ferry ride of Plymouth Delta loop. Simply stop into Riverview Cafe and request a tour.
Mid-Morning - Cuddle and Pet Kid Friendly Animals of all Kinds
Windy Acres Farm and Petting Zoo - a quick ten-minutes from downtown Plymouth - offers the opportunity to get close and personal with their animals, from turkeys to tortoises. Tours are required, so be sure to book in advance if you want to ensure you get to cuddle up with these cuties.
Noon - Immerse Yourself in History and Nature at Pettigrew State Park and Somerset Place
Grab lunch on the way at Betsy’s Barnyard before heading to Pettigrew State Park. It’s a site to see in any season and has nine miles of hiking or biking trails that take you by the 16,600 acres Lake Phelps. Be sure to visit the nearby Somerset Place, an old pre-civil war plantation with years of history.
Dinner - Dine at a French Bistro
Inspired by heritage and personal experience, owners Daniel and Sylvie Batigne moved to Plymouth to open their dream riverside bistro.
Evening - Meet the Bears
Local tour guides will take you right to where the action is.
